i have a dog that will go and run and pack up but he has no hunt only time he hunts hard is if he is still fired up from the kill before. if not then he will only go in the brush a little then come back out.

My opinion..you breed em into the brush, you don't beat em into the brush..meaning if it is NOT breed into them they will never be brush beaters.I do suggest when training young hounds and during their first season that when you shot a rabbit allow it to lay where you shot it till the hounds make it to that spot and let them sniff and smell it and from time to time take one fresh killed and tear it apart and feed it to the hounds, this builds the want to and encourages the hound to run to catch..if it likes the taste of rabbit? all my pups are raised on eating meat so it is natural for them to eat rabbit and by them eating a rabbit, now and than,i feel it improves them over all in the field when hunting..Some may think this will also encourage them to eat all the rabbits killed or if they just happen to catch one..but as well as my hounds like to eat the rabbit, they will also bring them back to you, maybe they want you to tear it apart for them so it can be eaten better????????????????
