How many dogs do you normally run in a pack? I would think five or six would be a managable pack for one person to handle.
5 in my pack.
At most i run 2-3
i have 5 beagles but i really dont like to run but 3 at a time, because its much easier to handle them and i can keep an eye on the individual dogs better that way.
depending on conditions and hunting area i like a larger pack.5-8
if i want to kill rabbits i think 3 or 4 would be best
Larger packs are my favorite, more music to my ears, more dogs in the brush, more dogs to pick up checks.. Just seeing hounds in the field is what it is about.
i dont mind the pack size but i would not put down more than 2 or three, total pack size would be 8-12 dogs and all hunters must be expirenced over a pack.
for inexpirenced hunters a pack no more than 5 seems to help me feel the dogs are safer than if there was 8 or so
i dont like more then 5-6 dogs dogs in a back because the last dog isnt smelling a rabbit is smelling the 8 or 9 dogs that are running befor it!?!?!

As long as the dog is in the pack then that shows it wants to be in there running. Good enough for me!
i have a dog that does well in the back, seems to get enough scent to show everyone watching that at times the pack has over ran the line,it looks great when he cuts them to peices like that, happens quite often depending on who i run with.the dog himself sux if he is in the front ,but he can work a check with the best of them.
My brother has a slower dog that is usually in the back but gets a lot of checks.
